Due to the copious amount of rum we consumed at the planning meeting, we mistakenly scheduled the Banyan for the same date as the Starlight Parade (May 24). We had few choices for other non-conflicting weekends, so we bit the bullet and moved the date to the 24th. Memorial Day weekend. We hope this doesn't prevent anyone from attending, and it may end up giving us some previously unforeseen advantages, being a three-day weekend.
Finally was able to get in touch with Tornado Rose, who is one of the key organizers of Rusty Scuppers Pirate Daze in Westport, WA. Nice Lady. She's unfortunately going through a rough time right now - her husband has been hospitalized and is very ill - so it's been kind of hard for her to run the festival and take care of her personal business. Don't I know what that's like!
Because there's not going to be a Portland Pirate Festival this year the officers of The Outrageous Fortune are looking for other ports to pirate in this season, and I've heard Rusty Scuppers is a nice little festival, so we're going to bring our own particular brand of piracy to Westport this June. I'm looking forward to dusting off all the detritus and setting up our camp again, after a dormant season.
I'm quite proud of our big heap of junk; it's the realization of a vision I had several years ago, and was finally able to realize 4 years ago with the help of dedicated officers, crew and friends. "It's much easier to build a shipwreck than a ship", was my thought, and it's true. We can configure our camp to whatever space is available, and fill it with the most amazing salvage. The broken masts are real eye-catchers, and people have said they can spend hours looking at all the details and watching us layabouts enjoying the space. It's great fun and I'm looking forward to lounging about in our shipwreck again this season!
On Thursday o' the week last, most o' the officers o' the once-glorious Outrageous Fortune met at the Alibi public house ta parlay about the activities o' the comin' year (Calico and Lost Soul were absent with leave). It were decided that we would host a Banyan this year (keep a weather eye out fer the date), Muster fer the St. Johns Parade again, an' apply as an "entertainment group" forRusty Scuppers Pirate Daze in Westport Washington. It were also decided that we would attempt to muster for Seadog Nights, though it bein' a very long event'll mean we have some plannin' ta do if we're to pull it off.
The crux o' the discussion were about how we'd fancy continuing piratin' together an' need more events an' outin's ta ensure our success and survival.
